Free for macOS 26 Tahoe · Apple Silicon
A video tool that stays out of your way

Every video,
perfectly compressed.

Squeeze compresses and converts any footage on your Mac. Drop files in, press one button and get HandBrake-quality results. Or just right-click in Finder.

Version 1.0.0 · HandBrake and FFmpeg built in

Squeeze makes the footage you shot fit wherever it needs to go: smaller files, any format, without touching resolution, frame rate or a single setting you didn't ask for.

01 · Compress

Same footage.
A fraction of the size.

Uses HandBrake's own default quality, minus the things you didn't ask for: no 1080p cap, no 30 fps cap and no cropping.

  • H.264 or H.265
  • Apple Silicon hardware
  • Original resolution
02 · Convert

Any file in.
The right file out.

23 formats, from MP4 and ProRes to GIF and MP3. Squeeze sends each job to the best engine automatically.

  • MP4 · MKV · WebM · MOV
  • GIF & WebP
  • MP3 · WAV · FLAC

None of the knobs.

Pick an engine and a codec, or don't. The defaults are what most people end up choosing anyway.

Keep original codecs. Need that MKV as an MP4? Squeeze can change only the container, without re-encoding. There's no quality loss, and it takes seconds instead of minutes. If the codecs don't fit, it converts the file properly instead.

Finder extension

Right-click.
That's it.

Every Squeeze action lives in Finder's right-click menu. Choose one and keep working. Squeeze runs quietly in the background and saves next to the original.

Made for macOS

Small things,
done properly.

A real queue

Drop in dozens of files or whole folders. Compress and Convert each have a queue and can run at the same time.

Your naming

Prefixes, suffixes and a save location you choose. It never overwrites a file; it adds a number instead.

Menu bar progress

See every file at a glance, stop everything or open the app, right from the menu bar.

Notifications

A note when each file is done, showing how much space you saved. Click it to find the file.

Liquid Glass

A native SwiftUI app with full keyboard shortcuts: ⌘O to add and ⌘↩ to start.

Private by design

Everything happens on your Mac. No uploads, accounts, analytics or tracking, and it works offline.

FAQ

Questions

Is Squeeze really free?

Yes. There's no trial, account or watermark.

How much smaller will my videos get?

It depends on the source. Phone and camera footage often shrinks by 60–90%. Videos that are already heavily compressed shrink less. H.265 usually gives files about half the size of H.264 at the same quality.

Will it lower the quality?

Compression always trades a little quality for size. Squeeze uses HandBrake's default quality level, which most people can't tell apart from the original at normal viewing sizes. It never changes the resolution or frame rate. For a perfect copy, convert with "Keep original codecs", which doesn't re-encode at all.

Does it work on Intel Macs or older macOS versions?

Squeeze needs macOS 26 Tahoe and is built for Apple Silicon (M1 and newer), so it can use the latest SwiftUI and Liquid Glass design.

The Finder menu doesn't appear. What do I do?

Open Squeeze once from Applications. Then check System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Finder and make sure Squeeze is on. If it's on but still missing, relaunch Finder: hold Option, right-click the Finder icon in the Dock and choose Relaunch.

Is Squeeze affiliated with HandBrake or FFmpeg?

No. Squeeze is an independent app that includes the open-source HandBrakeCLI and FFmpeg under their GPL licences. All credit for those engines goes to their developers.

Can I see the source code?

Yes. The full source is on GitHub, including the build script that produces the DMG. Bug reports and ideas are welcome there.
