Is Squeeze really free?
Yes. There's no trial, account or watermark.
How much smaller will my videos get?
It depends on the source. Phone and camera footage often shrinks by 60–90%. Videos that are already heavily compressed shrink less. H.265 usually gives files about half the size of H.264 at the same quality.
Will it lower the quality?
Compression always trades a little quality for size. Squeeze uses HandBrake's default quality level, which most people can't tell apart from the original at normal viewing sizes. It never changes the resolution or frame rate. For a perfect copy, convert with "Keep original codecs", which doesn't re-encode at all.
Does it work on Intel Macs or older macOS versions?
Squeeze needs macOS 26 Tahoe and is built for Apple Silicon (M1 and newer), so it can use the latest SwiftUI and Liquid Glass design.
The Finder menu doesn't appear. What do I do?
Open Squeeze once from Applications. Then check System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → Finder and make sure Squeeze is on. If it's on but still missing, relaunch Finder: hold Option, right-click the Finder icon in the Dock and choose Relaunch.
Is Squeeze affiliated with HandBrake or FFmpeg?
No. Squeeze is an independent app that includes the open-source HandBrakeCLI and FFmpeg under their GPL licences. All credit for those engines goes to their developers.
Can I see the source code?
Yes. The full source is on GitHub, including the build script that produces the DMG. Bug reports and ideas are welcome there.
